Christine & Cornell Soriano – Owners & Care Managers of Home Sweet Care Homes
We are Filipino-Americans, born and raised in the SF bay area. We received our undergraduate degrees from San Jose State University in Business Administration (Christine) and Kinesiology and Nutrition for Physical Performance (Cornell).
In 1999, my grandmother was admitted to a nursing home in San Pablo due to pneumonia and mild dementia. It was a dreadful time for me and my family. We struggled with the dementia at home but even worse, we struggled having to place her in a facility. During my visits she would talk about neglect from the staff and caregivers. Since it was a large facility, it didn’t surprise me that the staff was not able to tend to her needs. Her health quickly declined and she passed away on New Year’s just before the millennium.
A few years after receiving my undergrad, my husband and I decided to enter the Health Care Industry in 2007 with my grandmother in mind. We entered the industry in hopes of making a positive impact in the community. We want to reach out to seniors and families who do not know that there are services that can help provide a stable happy home for their loved ones; that life does not have to stop because their parent or loved one was diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease or paralysis or anything due to old age. Living in a small community such as a 6 bed residential facility or having care provided at home can help bring peace of mind to the family and/or loved one.
My staff and I pay close attention to the care provided to their loved ones and builds close relationships with the medical staff involved in their lives including their primary doctor, neurologists, physical therapist, and care management team. We are involved and work with other senior advocates in the community such as the Senior Resource Expo / Senior Fashion Show and the Alzheimer’s Association to help raise funds to find a cure to end Alzheimer’s. We have a social network of seniors helping seniors in the greater bay area and if your loved one cannot get out to enjoy the community, we bring the community in for your loved one to be engaged and involved.
